Buea: Brutal Arrests and Detention of Southern Cameroonians on Celebration Day and USA Branch Responds.

News arriving from Buea this day October 1,2011 reports that Professor Mola Njoh Litumbe who was recently elected as the Leader of the Home Front to lead the Southern Cameroons cause has been placed under house arrest by a humongous police contingent from the regime of the brutal dictaor Paul Biya. They claimed to have received orders from the Governor of the Southwest region to carry out their evil and unjust operations. These forces are said to have arrived from Yaounde to accomplish a unique task , that of stiffling any celebration of the historic independence day of the Southern Cameroons (former Independent West Cameroon). It was also reported by eye witnesses that four journalists from the Southern Cameroons including Boudhi Adams,Elvis Tarh and Patrick Siani of The Post newspaper were arrested. While Boudhi Adams and Elvis Tarh were ferried to the Molyko judicial police station,Patrick Siani was headed to the GMI. Over 200 other Southern Cameroonians who came to celebrate this big day were arrested alongside and about 160 sought refuge at the Nigerian Consulate in Buea. It must be recalled that not up to a year ago, it was the very President Biya who talked of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the "reunification" of the two Cameroons come October 1st. How come the realisation of this declared program is now a problem to the tyrannic and barbaric regime in Yaounde?

Despite this gloomy turn out in Buea, Southern Cameroonians in the United States under the barner of the SCNC (Southern Cameroons National Council) converged infront of the United Nations Organisation in New York to commemorate this Golden Jubilee and send a powerful message to the powers that be within this international structure ; that the freedom of the Southern Cameroons will not be compromised and that they were resolved to march on with the struggle until something positive happens. In undiluted words, leaders of the movement in the US such as Jude Ozughen and Larry Eyong called on the Secreatary General Ban Ki Moon and his colleagues, as well as the US, Nigeria, South Africa and UK to assist the people of the Southern Cameroons in restoring their independence which suffers brutal hijack under the warlords in Yaounde.

As much as this news is disturbing and reflects the way the... regime has been going about its treatment of the Southern Cameroonians who have just one goal, to assert themselves peacefully and maturely, it call on all of us to reflect and mobilize to say "NO" to such tyranny. Let all Southern Cameroonians jointly call for the regime of Biya to release our elder, leaders and activists with immediate effect.

Here below is a mail Professor Mola sent , describing the situation.

"Comrades
Having failed to locate my driver to take me to the Police Station where some of our compatriots are detained, or to the Nigerian Consulate where others are camped, I attempted to drive the car out myself and was met by a strong police contingent outside my gate who stopped me from leaving my premises, alleging that they were on orders to keep me under house arrest, on orders from the Governor of the South-West Region..
I have recoiled into my study and hereby confirm my detention. No reasons have been given, but this is the response of La Republique du Cameroun to resolve our differences peacefully and amicably, by brutalizing and preventing Southern Cameroonians from celebrating the anniversary of the 50th anniversary of the date which the United Nations named as the date they were to attain independence by joining La Republique du Cameroun, which they never did.

The struggle continues, but Southern Cameroons must be free.

Mola"

let us all hope that the news of the brutality and repressive impunity perpetrated by the Biya regime against the people of the Southern Cameroons on this Golden Jubilee celebration ceremony; will reach the highest levels of the international community and that concrete actions will be taken to avert any conflict that may ensue in the future in this regard.

  1. I read this article with great passion. The use of web 2.0 is certaining building an amazing platform for citizen vigilance and also political accountability in the country, Cameroon.
Just with the click of a mouse, information is able to circulate far and wide and every person is able to access and relate to the happening.
    Keep up the good work

  2. Thank You Zofem for reading. Indeed the world is a globlal microscope with the web.20. Given that information is denied access into some forums, nooks and crannies in Cameroon due to the tyrants selective and restrictive "freedom of speech"; the web has become the new platform for civic engagement and information sharing.

  3. We are in a country of laws and any illegal act is not tolerated. There is nothing like “southern Cameroon cause”. Some people think they are in a poultry or some pigsty where they can undertake any kind of thrash. Our fathers sat together and thought it wise to unite Cameroon and our country has been peaceful and both parts of Cameroon, English and French speaking, have been living together without any difference in consideration. A group of individuals with no interest for Cameroonians as a whole and with main aim to cause chaos in the country claim to fight for the freedom of “southern Cameroon”. How can you claim to free people who are free? It is a stupid thing to break through and open door.
